PR Tip Tuesday: Use Owned Media to Promote Your Brand

In my Marketing Monday post earlier this week, I highlighted ways to up level your brand through short term strategy. One of my tips was to ensure your website and all marketing materials are updated and ready for heavy traffic in Q4. Today, we’re digging into that a little further with PR Tip Tuesday. I’m teaching about owned media and how you can make your brand shine on your own platforms. ⁣

Owned media is just what it sounds like - any medium you own and use to promote your business. Your website, social channels, email campaigns, marketing materials, business cards, in-store merchandising: this is all owned media. You designed it, bought and stamped it with your logo. But does it all make sense? ⁣

Is your branding current? Are you using consistent colors, fonts, graphics, taglines and tone of voice across all platforms? Do you have a logo? If so, does it tell the story of your brand? Can people easily recognize your brand on multiple forms of media? ⁣

If you have a special offer, are you highlighting it across all platforms? Are you using your website and social channels to tell your story and inform customers about your products and services? Keeping your website and social media channels up to date is so important! These are the first places modern consumers will look for information about you. Influencers will review your digital presence to see if you’re a good partnership fit. ⁣

Your owned media spaces are your #1 places to take the reigns and tell your story your way.⁣

The key to keeping your owned media channels fresh is - say it with me - CONSISTENCY. Keep a perpetual list of spaces that need to be updated as you change offers, services and branding. Always start with your digital platforms first and work your way down the list to less visible properties. ⁣

Ready to work on your owned media? Make a list of all the spaces you own. Give yourself an audit of what could be updated and your current branding. Make a list of what’s great vs. what’s not, then start a list of changes that need to be made. Prioritize and assign action steps. Start somewhere! All steps toward consistency are good!
